Today we started out Monster Visualization project. To begin our unit we read a short monster story describing a monster in the woods. We then broke into groups and used the descriptions from the story to create our visualization of the monster. Tomorrow we will go check out the monsters that the other grade one classes visualized from the same descriptions. I wonder how similar or different they will be?
Here is the story we listened to:
I was walking along through the dark, dark woods on a dark, dark night and there standing before me was the most interesting monster I have ever seen. He was gigantic...the size of a tree. His large red head had three big circle eyes staring down at me. Each time he blinked, his colourful eyelashes fluttered in the breeze. He smiled at me with his black, rectangular mouth and each gleaming triangular teeth flashed in the moonlight. White, yellow, white, yellow...the pattern was fascinating. He sniffed at me with his purple pig nose covered in green warts. His two nostrils were flaring as he leaned forward to check me out. His one longer antennae reached out towards me and his shorter antenna stood straight up. There was a blue circle on the tip of each antennae. My hair was standing on end, just like the red furry hair covering his body. I was about to turn and run when I noticed his pink, sparkly wings. How could a monster be scary with pink, sparkly wings? I wondered if his big, oval body needed a hug. Each blue polka dot invited me to wrap my arms around him. I wrapped my arms around his short, thick neck, careful not to touch the caterpillar growing from his yellow, hexagon bellybutton. The fur tickled my bare arms. Then, his long skinny arms reached out around me. Each of his three fingers carefully patted my back. I reached up to scratch his furry head and bumped my finger on his cone shaped horn placed neatly between his two antenna. Suddenly, I felt a cold slimy feeling on my leg. I looked down and he had curled his orange tail around me. I could see many blue spikes up the back of it, but they didn’t worry me. I could tell this monster was going to be my friend. I stretched up to whisper in his little round ears, “Would you like to come for supper?”. He nodded slowly and hand in hand we walked back through the woods. With each step, all four of his short, orange, hairy legs kept up with mine. I couldn’t help but notice the seven, long, pointy claws coloured bright green at the end of each foot and wondered what mom would think.
