We had a great day today! This morning we used conversation hearts in math to practice place value and representing numbers. This afternoon we met up with our grade two buddy class to build a STEM project. Our challenge was to build Cupid a new bow and arrow and see how far it could shoot. We only had tape, 4 straws, 4 popsicle sticks, yarn and paper to work with! Students worked together to design the bow and arrow and then started building. We tested out our design and made changes as need to come up with the perfect design. We had to work on being mindful, patient, and our perseverance as sometimes it was hard! We didn't give up though!
Can you make a parachute for Santa that can make him fly? Our class had a great time working with their buddies designing a parachute for Santa out of only a plastic bag, string, tape, and a cup. Students had to work together and think of a design. They then tested out their design and made adjustments. Wshat is a Makerspace?There are many different ways to define a Makerspace but essentially it is;
A place where people can come together to use, and learn to use materials as well as develop creative projects. Makerspaces promote learning through play and can be created in a classroom, a library or even in a stand alone building. The important idea is that it is a place that can be used for a range of activities with changing and flexible educational goals and creative purposes. We have seen Makerspaces in all different shapes and sizes and whilst they are most commonly associated with using technology to create and design,typically the spaces will;
Our class Makerspace is filled with a variety of building materials to foster our creativity. Students are given opportunities to plan and build, make mistakes and revise, and experience hands on learning. |
