We have been working hard on addition and subtraction strategies in class this year. We often play a game called Addition War to help with the counting on strategy. You can easily play this game with your child at home to help with their math fluency.
Addition/Subtraction War
Instructions
Things You'll Need:
Deal an even number of cards to each player at the table. If there are three players playing the game, discard the last card from the deck.
Each player flips over their top card. The person who can add the two numbers together the fastest and state the answer wins both cards.
If both players state the answer at the same time, a war occurs. In Addition War, this requires each player to place three cards face down and flip over one additional card face up. The player who states the sum first wins all the cards.
Continue playing rounds of Addition War until one player has all the cards. That player is the winner.
To play subtraction war simply subtract instead of add.
